This pair of SLUGS fleece boot liners were worn by Dee Dee (Lauren Lapkus) on “Are You There, Chelsea?” the episode that aired 02.08.12 called “TheGynecologist”!!

I was contacted back in November 2011 by my friend Nicole; she works as a stylist for “Are You There, Chelsea?” Nicole asked me to next day air 7 pairs of SLUGS fleece boot liners down to LA for this new show. She was working on a boating scene. It was stressful in the middle of the busiest time of year for me, but I made it happen with help from my mom and Jacob. To see my SLUGS on TV is such a dream come true!!

My Etsy friend Angie from SteamPunkFunk put together this great treasury

To celebrate blueberry art festival success we took a zip line tour with Alaska Canopy Adventures. This was my third zip line tour I have taken here in Ketchikan and it is so fun! I was able to take a few photo's of my SLUGS up in the trees I will be most more photo's soon so keep an eye out for them.

How SLUGS fleece boot liner came to be….

After I moved back to Ketchikan, Alaska from Seattle, Washington, my mother bought me a new pair of rain boots and plain black boot liners to prepare me for the weather I had grown up in as a child and a young adult. I loved them so much that I found myself living in them! I was telling anyone who would listen to me how great they are, and so functional for our rain forest climate. My friend Melissa from “Those Alaskan Girls “asked me if I would do the local Blueberry art festival with her, but at the time I was not designing or producing anything.

I thought I could make my own boot liners, adding a touch of my own style with cool patterns, colors and one funky button. The funny part at the time was I didn’t even know how to sew and I didn’t have a sewing machine. I asked my grandmother if she had a sewing machine I could use, she did but it was child size, one you would just use to hem something with. The Blueberry Festival was two months away I went to a local craft store and bought one yard of grey fleece and developed a pattern. Sewing my first pair of SLUGS they turned out great for using such a tiny machine (Melissa still has them to this day)! My mom always supportive, bought me my first sewing machine and I was on my way. The 2009 Blueberry Festival was the beginning of a project for me that was and is a personally satisfying achievement! I had made 30 plus pairs of SLUGS they were a big hit, and completely sold out!!

 While I slept a treasury I made and a treasury I was featured in made it to

the front page of Etsy!! 

Here is the treasury I made “Her Country Farmhouse” it was on the front page of Etsy at 6am EST. Out of all the treasury I have made this one has received the most  views and clicks 2017 views and 821 views.

This treasury “country fried” by natureofart (Christie) featuring my SLUGS made it to the front page of Etsy at 10am EST. 

Not only did Christie included my SLUGS but she also included upcycled leather urban bracelet from steampunkfunk (Angie)  and a Fabric on Wood piece of art by shellieartist (Shellie) two of my Etsy friends. Steampunkfunk and I are leaders of the Alaskan Etsy team and natureofart is a member of the Alaskan team. The Perfect Pair Of Rain Boots



I hear this question a lot I LOVE your rain boot, where did you get them? What’s the brand? So I thought this would make a great first blog post. I wear two kinds of rain boots Xtratufs and Hunters.

Xtratufs only come in the brown and crème combination you see in a lot of my photos. They do come in different heights 16”, 12” and 6”. I prefer to wear the tall 16” boot you can roll them down to make them shorter.  They only come in men’s sizes for example I wear a 7.5 shoe size but my xtratufs are a size 5. Xtratufs are the Alaska state shoe we in Ketchikan call them Ketchikan sneakers. You can purchase Xtratufs from Cabelas and you can also find them on EBay.

Xtratufs Boot 16" & 12"

The colorful rain boots are called Hunters and they come in a rainbow of colors. I own three pairs of Hunters Aubergine Purple, Pea Green Gloss (This color is no longer available I tell people to check EBay, that is where I found my pair) and my newest pair are Watling Lace Up Full Knee Boot green (Jake my BF bought me for my birthday). Hunter boots do run large so I wear a size 6 in them I have larger calves and have trouble finding boots that fit, but Hunters and Xtratufs fit my calves. You can purchase extended calf Hunter Boots.

I CANNOT wear either brand of rain boots without SLUGS fleece boot liners. SLUGS stop the annoying problem of your socks slipping down to the bottom of your boot and bunching up. They also make it easier to pull on and off your boots and stop the rubber from rubbing your legs raw. They are stylish and functional to boot.
